Years 5 & 6

St Michael's Catholic Primary School

Years 5 & 6

In Year 5/6 we have been applying our understanding of numeracy concepts in real-world scenarios. The children have enjoyed exploring decimals, fractions and percentages by creating their own food menu for the Olympic Games. The use of technology is helping to redefine our learning within the classroom and we have placed an emphasis on digital collaboration to complement our traditional learning experiences. By using the Minecraft EDU application on their iPads, our students produced some outstanding three-dimensional house plans to demonstrate their knowledge of area and perimeter and how to use a scale to convert between different units of measurement. The children love the Talk for Writing program that has had a profound effect on the quality of their narratives. Be it a suspense, action or warning tale, our children can all be very proud of the stories they have created this semester.

Encouraging life-long learning
